Meet The Seny Collection, where heritage meets handcrafted luxury
The name “The Seny Collection” is rich with meaning. In founder Dolo Rose Brewer’s native Guinean language, “seny” translates to “gold” or “brilliance.” It’s also the African name of her eldest daughter, Audrey, and a tribute to a cherished friend who journeyed with Brewer to the U.S. at the age of 15. Beyond these personal connections, however, “seny” also embodies the inner radiance Brewer seeks to imbue into the collection’s handcrafted pieces.
“To me, anything made by hand is luxury,” Brewer says. “When you create a product, you have to make sure the quality is above the norm so people buy it because they love it rather than wanting to ‘support’ and do a good deed. When you buy a luxury product, it evokes a feeling in you because the beauty and the quality please you; it’s more than just acknowledging an artisan who made it.”
The Seny Collection offers an assortment of bracelets, necklaces, rings, leather goods, handbags and accessories, all crafted by a small network of predominately female artisans in Kenya, Ghana and Brewer’s native Guinea. Among the most popular items are the Empress and Solace rings, the Audrey necklace (named after her daughter) and beaded bracelets from the flagship Kazuri collection. Since 1975, Kazuri has employed local women to craft each bead by hand – from purifying the clay to rolling, firing and assembling the one-of-a-kind stacking bracelets.
